In the ever-evolving landscape of traffic regulations, staying informed is paramount. As of April 18, 2024, the Saudi Traffic Department (Muroor) implemented a 25% fine discount, a measure aimed at promoting compliance and enhancing road safety. However, it’s crucial to note that not all violations are eligible for this reduction. Muroor has explicitly outlined nine types of traffic violations that are excluded from this discount, shedding light on the finer details of this initiative.

    Clarifying Excluded Violations

    1. Drifting

The act of drifting, characterized by deliberate oversteering, is a highly risky behavior on roads. Due to its inherent danger to both the driver and other road users, drifting violations remain ineligible for the 25% fine discount.

    2. Traffic Accidents Due to Overtaking or Speeding

Speeding and reckless overtaking significantly increase the likelihood of traffic accidents. Recognizing the severity of such infractions, Muroor has excluded violations related to accidents stemming from these behaviors from the discount scheme.

    3. Violations of Establishing or Operating Driving Schools

Ensuring the quality and legitimacy of driving schools is integral to maintaining road safety standards. Violations related to the establishment or operation of such schools fall outside the scope of the 25% fine discount.

    4. Violations of Vehicle Weights, Dimensions, and Inspection

Proper vehicle weight, dimensions, and regular inspections contribute to roadworthiness and safety. Violations pertaining to these aspects are not eligible for the discount, emphasizing the importance of adhering to vehicle regulations.

    5. Workshop Violations

Workshops play a crucial role in vehicle maintenance and repair. Violations occurring within these establishments, such as non-compliance with regulations, are exempt from the 25% fine reduction.

    6. Violations of Issuing International Driving Licenses

The issuance of international driving licenses must adhere to established protocols to ensure validity and authenticity. Violations related to the issuance process are excluded from the discount scheme.

    7. Seizure of Vehicle Registration Plates or Driving Licenses

Seizure of registration plates or driving licenses is a serious administrative action often taken in response to significant violations. As such, these violations do not qualify for the 25% fine discount.

    8. Showroom Violations

Maintaining integrity within vehicle showrooms is essential for consumer protection and fair practices. Violations occurring within showrooms, such as misrepresentation or non-compliance, remain outside the scope of the discount.

    9. Selling or Destroying Vehicles Outside the Kingdom

Transactions involving the sale or destruction of vehicles outside the Kingdom are subject to specific regulations. Violations related to these transactions are not eligible for the 25% fine reduction.

    Context and Impact

This clarification from Muroor follows the Ministry of Interior’s earlier announcement, which offered a 50% relaxation for traffic violations until April 18, 2024, followed by a 25% reduction thereafter. The concession, spanning six months, aims to provide relief for motorists while reinforcing compliance with traffic regulations.

While the 25% fine discount presents an opportunity for many motorists to alleviate penalties, those engaged in the specified violations must remain vigilant. It underscores the importance of staying abreast of the latest traffic regulations to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of all road users.

In conclusion, Muroor’s clarification on the exclusions from the 25% traffic fine discount provides invaluable insights for motorists navigating Saudi Arabia’s roadways. By understanding these delineated violations, individuals can make informed decisions to uphold road safety standards and avoid penalties.
