The upcoming Hajj season poses potential challenges due to extreme weather conditions forecasted by the Saudi Arabian National Meteorological Center. Pilgrims visiting the holy sites and Mecca during the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage may encounter scorching temperatures and brisk surface winds, which could lead to dust and sand storms, particularly in open areas and highways, potentially affecting the health and comfort of pilgrims.

    Weather Outlook

According to Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, the CEO of the National Center for Meteorology, temperatures in the holy sites are expected to soar between 45 to 48 degrees Celsius during the afternoon. Rainfall chances are anticipated to be low, with a possibility of thundercloud formation over the highlands of Taif, which might impact the weather in the holy sites. Additionally, humidity levels may exceed 60%.

    Precautionary Measures

To ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims, the National Center for Meteorology continues to monitor the weather conditions across the holy sites, Medina, airports, ports, and major roads.

    Tips for Pilgrims

    Hydration is Key

Hydrate: It’s crucial to drink ample amounts of water and fluids throughout the day to prevent dehydration under the scorching sun.

    Seek Shade

Stay in Shade: Optimal to remain in shaded areas, especially during noon hours, to avoid heat exhaustion.

    Use Umbrellas

Umbrella Protection: Carrying a small umbrella can provide shelter from direct sunlight, and it’s advisable to choose light-colored ones for better reflection.

    Apply Sunscreen

Sunscreen Application: Applying sunscreen to exposed skin helps protect against sunburns.

    Wear Light Clothing

Choose Breathable Fabrics: Opt for clean and lightweight cotton clothing while avoiding heavy and dark-colored attire to prevent heatstroke.

By adhering to these guidelines, pilgrims can safeguard their health and well-being while performing the Hajj rituals. Wishing all pilgrims a safe and fulfilling journey.
