During the sacred Hajj season, pilgrims face the significant challenge of navigating between holy sites and accommodations efficiently and safely. Recognizing this challenge, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has developed and organized a wide range of diverse transportation options to meet the needs of pilgrims. Here’s a comprehensive look at these transportation methods:

    The Haramain High-Speed Railway

The Haramain High-Speed Railway stands as a cornerstone in the transportation network during the Hajj season, connecting Makkah and Madinah via Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City. With over 3,800 trips offered, the train facilitates efficient and comfortable travel for pilgrims. There are 35 trains available between Makkah, Madinah, King Abdullah Economic City, and Jeddah, providing extensive coverage and meticulous service. The train allows ticket purchases up to 30 minutes before departure, with ticket modifications permitted up to an hour before the journey and cancellations up to 24 hours in advance, offering significant flexibility for travelers.

    The Holy Sites Train

The Holy Sites Train is an essential and effective mode of transportation during the Hajj season, providing safe and facilitated transport between the three holy sites: Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat. This train facilitates pilgrims’ movements between these major sites with high efficiency and excellent comfort.

    Inter-City Buses and Pilgrims’ Transport

Inter-city buses and transport for pilgrims offer excellent service to the pilgrims of the House of Allah. These buses are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and technical facilities, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey. Many trips cover 260 different locations throughout the Kingdom, with over 27,000 buses specially prepared for pilgrim transport.

    Public Transport Service within Makkah

The public transport service within Makkah provides over 355 buses to facilitate travel within the city for pilgrims.

    Public Transport Service within Madinah

Public transport service within Madinah is also available with over 27 buses, providing an efficient and comfortable means of transportation within the city.

    Licensed Taxi Vehicles

Licensed taxi vehicles are abundant during the Hajj season, allowing pilgrims to use them for transportation within Makkah and Madinah.

    Approved Transportation Apps

Smart transportation apps like Uber and Careem operate effectively during Hajj, allowing pilgrims to easily book their rides through smartphones.

    Vehicle Rentals

For pilgrims preferring greater independence in transportation, the Kingdom offers a wide range of options for vehicle rentals.

Key Roads Used for Transportation during Hajj 2024

To facilitate pilgrims’ arrival in Makkah, the heart of the Islamic world, an extensive and advanced road network has been developed. These roads are designed to accommodate the massive numbers of pilgrims traveling to Makkah from various parts of the Kingdom and the world. Here’s a look at the key roads:
