In Saudi Arabia, the observance of Ramadan and the subsequent Eid holidays mark a significant period of spiritual reflection and celebration for Muslims across the country. During this time, various institutions, including banks and money transfer centers, adjust their operational hours to accommodate the needs of both customers and employees while respecting the traditions of the holy month and the festivities that follow.

    Ramadan Working Hours

The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) has released guidelines regarding the working hours for banks and money transfer centers during the month of Ramadan in 2024. These guidelines aim to ensure that financial services remain accessible to the public while acknowledging the unique circumstances of the Ramadan period.

During Ramadan, daily operations for money transfer centers will span six flexible hours, commencing at 9:30 AM and concluding at 5:30 PM. This schedule allows for essential financial transactions to be conducted within a reasonable timeframe, taking into account potential changes in customer behavior during the fasting month.

On the other hand, bank branches will operate on a slightly adjusted schedule, opening at 10:00 AM and closing at 4:00 PM. This timing provides customers with ample opportunity to conduct their banking activities while respecting the traditions and observances associated with Ramadan.

    Eid Al Fitr Holiday

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is celebrated with joyous festivities and communal prayers. As part of the holiday observance, financial institutions will close their doors starting 05 April 2024, with the last working day preceding the holiday falling on April 4. Services will resume on 14 April 2024, allowing employees to partake in the celebrations and spend time with their families.

    Eid Al Adha Holiday

Similarly, the Eid Al Adha holiday period will see banks and money transfer centers ceasing operations starting 14 June 2024. The final working day before the holiday will be June 13, and services will resume on 23 June 2024. This extended break provides employees with an opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones and participate in traditional festivities.

    Special Considerations for Hajj Season

The Hajj season brings an influx of pilgrims to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, necessitating special arrangements for banking services to accommodate the needs of both residents and visitors. In response to this, SAMA has mandated that bank offices, branches, foreign exchange centers, and payment companies remain operational throughout the Hajj season, including on Fridays and Saturdays.

Furthermore, banks and financial institutions are required to operate some branches in densely populated areas, border crossings, and airports during the holidays to ensure continued access to essential financial services for both residents and pilgrims alike.

By implementing these measures, SAMA aims to facilitate smooth financial transactions and ensure the convenience of both residents and visitors during this auspicious period.
